Production, Distribution, Exhibition

    Production, Distribution, Exhibition

This is the second week that we are doing our portfolio and we are learning about Production, Distribution, Exhibition. The research that we are doing should help us understand the process on how the production, distribution, exhibition work after creating a film

Production

Production is the process that you do in order to create your film. Production refers to creating the idea, writing the scripts, filming, getting a budget. Their are six big production companies; the six companies also known as "The Big Six" have produced some of the biggest films and make up about 90% of box offices money. Every Disney, DC, Marvel are made by on of the big six. Indies are studios that don't work with any of the six major production companies. They can be referred as "independents" or "indies" these movies are some pf the movies you would see on Netflix. Making a film cost a lot of money so making on is a very big risk because the box office is never certain if a film will make the profit back. In order to even get enough money to start making a film you will need an investor. Before you start you filming will need to get a "Greenlit." A green lit is when the investor invests and all the funding is available. There's no simple way of getting someone to invest into a film but if you have an easy selling point, and create something similar to other that have made lots of money.. Audiences are drawn to the characters and build an emotional connection to the characters even though they aren't in the film. Although they aren't in the film they can also connect with the film through the different shot and angles. I would probably use a smaller studio and probably an independent company due to the fact that I don't have a big budget nor the experience.

Distribution

Distribution is the process in which you get your film distributed to the public. Distribution is one of the most important parts because it deals with the most business. If you don't distribute your film correctly you may not get it to the right audience and the investment, time, money all went to waste. Films are place on specific dates in order to get people so be more likely to watch the film: such as watching on a day off or a big holiday. There are a few different ways to release a film such as standard release,( releasing the film in the theaters/ cinema)Simultaneous release(releasing the film on the internet). I would probably use Simultaneous because its the most accessible to the public which means that more people are able to see it and watch it.

Exhibition

Exhibition is the final stage of the filming process. After the cinema releases the film it is like the advertisement.  There are a two different ways to show the exhibition in a film. Theatrical and nontheatrical, theatrical is the actual movie theater while nontheatrical is television of all types. For my film I would definitely choose nontheatrical because it would be accessible for the viewers.
