The meaning for Cinematography
This week I got a project that needs to be on Cinematography that is this blog for today. So lets start off with the basics well not really so basic. What is cinematography you might ask? Cinematography is responsible for the technical aspects of the images, basically all of the camera angles and movements. Lighting, lens choices, composition, exposure, filtrations, and camera filters.
Background
Cinematography is made up from many different elements of movements and many different camera angles. Lets start of with the many different unique camera angles. Then the camera movements and lastly the shot types. All of these are what makes a scene a scene because without any of the ones I just listed you wouldn't be able to make a movie in the first place.
Shot Types
- Overshot
An overshot is used when the Camera directly above the the action looking down.
- High shot
Camera is above the subject looking down at an angle to make the subject look smaller.
- Under shot
Camera is placed under the subject looking straight up.
- Point of view shot (POV)
Used to show from the subjects perspective.
- Low angle shot
The camera would be low to the ground while pointing at an angle to do the opposite of a high angle shot, to make the subject look bigger.
Camera Movements
- Tracking
When the camera tracks the subject through a scene.
- panning
- Dolling
- The zoom
- Hand held camera
- Dolly-In Is when the camera moves slowly toward the subject. (And many more just can't list them all because the list would go on forever)
